Keeping that old website is actually costing you plenty – in lost business! That’s right, having an obsolete website will now cause a significant loss of new business. Why? Because –
To use an analogy, imagine a business owner who has no phone because he doesn’t want to pay all that money to have one. The amount saved would hardly cover the loss of business he would experience by omitting this standard method of doing business. It’s obvious to most that having a business phone is a good investment.
What is not so obvious is that having an older website, that doesn’t work well with mobile devices, will cost far more than the price to create a modern website. And avoiding that one-time investment insures that you’ll lose business month after month.
According to Google, more searches are now being done from mobile devices than from desktop computers! Even more importantly, Google is giving mobile-friendly sites preference in their rankings and penalizing websites that are not mobile-friendly!
So what do we mean by “mobile-friendly”? Sites that are not mobile-friendly will load up on a smart phone. They are just tiny versions of the PC-sized website. This is very difficult to use; not friendly. A mobile-friendly site is designed to re-configure each page, so that mobile users have no trouble reading (no zooming needed) and navigating (links are easy to touch) the site.
Google Mobile-Friendly Test. To see if your site is currently mobile-friendly, take the test right here; www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly. It’s quick and easy to do this test; just type your website address and click the button.
Google says, “Mobile is critical to your business and will continue to be so … Make sure visitors can have a good experience on your site when they’re visiting from their mobile devices!”
Common sense says, “Since over half of the people search on mobile, not having a modern site is like telling half of your potential customers that you don’t care about them.”

Note: Profit Gate began building all new websites as mobile-friendly in January 2013. Sites built prior to that are not mobile-friendly and should be updated.
