Anyone who is interested in climbing on SERP’s (search engine results page) needs to understand that while link building may be very time consuming and frustrating, it is essential to getting those desired rankings. Google’s latest algorithm update, aka “Panda”, focuses on recognizing unnatural links and penalizing websites that have them or have not made an effort to remove them. Panda cracked down on some of the following techniques: paid links or link exchanges i.e. through link farms -(Pay us only $50 a month and we will get you 50 links with a PageRank of 3-5), links that consistently have unnatural anchor text, excessive link acquisition, and misusing numerous “feeder” sites or other domains you own for link building.
First you should focus on getting your website listed in all the major search engines if it isn’t there already. Next plan on getting listed in some directories that are relevant to your business or the content on your site. Do not submit your website endlessly just because it is a directory. If your website has content that is related to the state of Florida, search for Florida directories. An important directory to submit your website to is www.dmoz.org (Open Directory Project) because it’s a human edited directory and is well respected. Continue to focus on getting quality links with effective social media techniques such as social bookmarking. Another idea is to consult with webmasters or companies that have similar content on their website and see if you can build a relationship. Link building is a long process but it will pay off in the end.
I commonly use the website www.seomoz.org for tips and latest trends in SEO. I came across an article by Paddy Moogan which gives 8 link building tips, some of which I did not even know about. Hey, learn something new every day!
Enjoy. Here is a snippet from Moogan’s article:
“For today’s Whiteboard Friday, I’ll be covering eight tips to help you build more links. This follows on from my talk at MozCon which covered 35 ways to get links in around 35 minutes.
At MozCon, I explained how link building is hard, it takes time and can be very tough for most of us. Unfortunately for most of us, it isn’t as simple as just producing content which automatically gets links. Our content needs a push to make it get links, and over time, it does become easier if you build the right relationships.
These techniques can help you build those relationships with the right people in your niche and get the links you deserve. Not only now, but in the future. Let’s get to it and I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments.”
